The Definition of Health

It is important to consider the definition of health. The absence of disease does not make someone healthy. Being disease free is not good health. Being healthy means being able to control and manage diseases and stay well. A better definition of health should encompass the whole life course, including older adults. A good one must work for a nation, because most countries are aging. Here are some guidelines to consider when defining your health. (See Chart 1)!

‘Complete health’: Achieving ‘complete health’ is not a goal. There is no such thing. Even the most active person may suffer from chronic diseases. Thus, it is important to understand the nature of health. A complete health view fails to account for the existence of disabilities and chronic illnesses. It also leads to an overmedicalization of society. In contrast, a holistic approach to health promotes physical, mental, and social well-being.

‘Complete health’: The World Health Organization’s constitution was adopted on April 7, 1948, and defines health as “complete physical and mental well-being”. The writers of the constitution understood that health is not dependent on diseases and that it was important to understand the concept of health as a total state of wellbeing. In this way, we can create a healthy society and avoid suffering. If we don’t understand the nature of health, we will not be able to make healthy decisions.

“Complete health”: This approach to health is unrealistic and a bad idea. It does not account for disabilities and chronic illnesses and is counterproductive. The ‘complete health’ view of health contributes to overmedicalisation of society and is unhelpful to the concept of ‘complete health’. But a healthy body is a good life. That’s why it’s a good idea to seek holistic health, as opposed to ‘complete wellness.’

A ‘complete health’ perspective is counterproductive. People will not always be healthy. The ‘complete health’ view is also unrealistic. A person’s health is a combination of physical and mental well-being. It is a balanced state of mind and body. It’s not a state of health. Rather, it is a state of being fully healthy. There’s no single ‘complete’ definition of ‘complete health’.

The World Health Organization (WHO) defines health as a complete physical, mental, and social state of well-being. The constitution of the World Health Organization states that “health” is a state of complete physical and mental well-being. As such, it is a complex and multifaceted state that reflects the needs of each individual. By incorporating all of these aspects, health is more than just an absence of disease. It is a combination of the physical, psychological, and social aspects of life.

Health is a multidimensional concept. Rather than simply being the absence of disease, it also encompasses the ability to function. The WHO defines health as a state of well-being, but the word can also mean many things. A health is the absence of disease, not the presence of it. A person’s personal health and well-being are subjective. Whether or not they’re “healthy” is dependent on the definition of health.
